Purchase a Really Big Walk TShirt and help support Joe, Vince and people living with or impacted by Parkinson's in Queensland!
A small Grab Bag that you can take with you to make sure you have all your Parkinson’s information with you. Suitable for emergencies or for when you are going into hospital or on holiday.
Inside the bag is a booklet titled ‘My Journey with Parkinson’s Disease’. This is where you can record all your Parkinson’s information including your medication, your medical team, any devices, and much more. Fill this in and if you do have to go to hospital the staff can very quickly get up to speed with your Parkinson’s.
The other sheet included is a checklist of things to take with you. We know that these can be stressful situations, so we included a checklist to make it easy for you or your loved ones to pack quickly and tick off that everything is included.
We also have a rubber wristband that says ‘I have Parkinson’s’ and ‘Medications on time, every time’. You can wear this at any time so people know that you need to have your medications on time.
You can also keep your medications and other documents you might need in the Grab Bag.
Parkinson’s currently affects an estimated 18,500 thousand people in Queensland, with an average of 8 people diagnosed in Queensland each day.
These numbers increase exponentially when you start to consider their friends, families, colleagues, and communities of those living with this degenerative, life limiting disease. One that has no cure.
In 2021, Parkinson’s Queensland has some REALLY BIG plans –increasing support services for the Parkinson’s community, improving our Newly Diagnosed Program to help support those new to the journey and continue to develop new and innovative programs to really make a difference to the quality of life of those impacted by Parkinson’s.
To make these plans possible, we needed a REALLY BIG idea.
The Kelly Family, led by brothers Joe (State Member for Greenslopes) and Vince (a former President of Parkinson’s Australia) wanted to lend a hand and show their support for people with Parkinson’s, being members of the community themselves by going on a REALLY BIG WALK.
Joe and Vince’s parents were both diagnosed with Parkinson’s, so starting Easter Saturday, The Kelly Family will start from Greenslopes and walk all the way to Coolum, where their Mum is currently living in a nursing home.
For those playing from home, that is over 230kms or 301837 steps.
Show your support by buying a Really Big Walk Tshirt and wearing it this April, Parkinson's Awareness Month and help the boys make their KMs count for people living with and impacted by Parkinson's
